Skotel Alpine Resort is in Whakapapa Village at the base of Mount Ruapehu. This central location places guests close to the national park’s best hiking tracks, ski areas and sightseeing spots.

The resort sits along the Thermal Explorer and Volcanic Loop touring routes, giving travellers easy access to volcanic landscapes, alpine trails and the natural wonders of Tongariro National Park. The Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre is a short 500 metre walk from the resort. Travellers driving from Auckland or Wellington can expect a journey of around four and a half hours.

With no night-light pollution around the property, guests can enjoy stunning views of the night sky on clear evenings, making Skotel an appealing base for star gazing and night sky photography.

Guests planning to complete the Tongariro Alpine Crossing or spend a day on the ski fields can book shuttle services with ease. Summit Shuttles offers pick-ups from Skotel.

Visit summitshuttles.co.nz, select Skotel as the pick-up location and choose the preferred departure time.

SKI & HIKING SHOP

Edge to Edge is Skotel’s onsite ski and hiking shop. The team provides a full range of ski and snowboard hire for the Whakapapa and Turoa ski fields on Mount Ruapehu. In summer, travellers can hire hiking equipment and outdoor clothing suited to the region’s trails and alpine conditions.
