Skotel – Your Base for Tongariro Adventures

Had dinner at the Skotel restaurant after a big day doing the Tongariro Crossing. The staff were lovely, really friendly and great service. The food was tasty and came out quickly. Thet also have round tables which are so much better for conversation.

Such a great ski lodge vibe, with wood pannelled walls, a games area, a fire and big couches in the bar/restaurant area looking out at the amazing views. The rooms are clean and cosy. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent. Make sure you have a spa in the garden hot tub, it is glass-walled, looking out to a lovely garden area. Really enjoyed our stay here.

Amazing views and so Cozy! Meals were large servings and really fast service. We had the lamb shanks – Devine! Beds are comfy and room was warm and showers are extra hot with great pressure … what more do you need after a day tramping? Loved it and hope to be back again soon!

If you are planning to ski at whakapapa, there is no better place. You will be halfway up the mountain. So you get to sleep longer and enjoy the snow even more. The rooms are nice and cozy, shared (backpacker) kitchen has plenty of appliances and the bathrooms are clean.
Staff if friendly and helpful. I will return for sure.

My son, his partner and I all stayed at Skotel in June. From the warm welcome to our fond farewell from hosts Sam and Kaz, we loved every minute of our stay. The hospitality, cleanliness, comfort and VIEWS are simply perfect. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast and drinks in the cosy bar. Cannot WAIT to return.
