One of New Zealand’s most iconic events, the award-winning T42 takes you into the crisp alpine air and pristine environs of the Tongariro National Park. There is a 6km walk or run, 11km walk or run, 24km adventure walk or run, 42.2km marathon and a 48km mountain bike event that takes place in the heart of Ruapehu.

The Goat Adventure Run
Saturday 22nd January 2022

The Goat is an exhilarating adventure run from Whakapapa to Turoa Ski Fields on the Round the Mountain track, traversing the western slopes of Mount Ruapehu.

Entries are strictly limited – so you’ll need to get in quick if you want to join the Goat Tribe in 2022.

The approximately 20 kilometre course has over 1,000 metres of vertical ascent covering amazing terrain. Entrants will pass by spectacular scenery ranging from ancient lava flows and scoria fields, mountain beech forest, tussock grasslands, and alpine herb fields to cascading waterfalls, an alpine lake, boulder-strewn rivers, and amazing panoramic views. UNESCO Dual World Heritage Area; the Tongariro National Park is a magical place for trail runners and adventurers alike.

Ring of Fire Volcanic Ultra

In 2022, Ring of Fire will combine the much loved Tussock Traverse event offerings of 6km, 12km, 21km, and 32km as part of an amazing day in the Tongariro National Park.

The epic Ruapehu Ring of Fire solo 73km round the mountain and 50km event from Turoa Ski Area back to the designated finish line will headline the weekend.

The goal of the event is to capture the active energy and unique attributes of both the Ring of Fire and Tussock Traverse, fusing them into an exhilarating and moving experience for all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. The unique  features of both events will be retained to develop New Zealand’s premier alpine ultra and trail adventure running event harnessing the nature and inspirational power of the majestic mountains of Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro.
