Location

Car

The Skotel sits in the tussock on the edge of the Whakapapa Village, at the foot of Mt Ruapehu in the centre of North Island of New Zealand. It is conveniently accessible by road for anyone travelling between Auckland and Wellington. From State Highway 1, turn off at Turangi. From State Highway 4, turn off at National Park.

Many of our overseas guests travel by car. These can be rented at the airport where you land.

Train

The Auckland-Wellington express trains "The Overlander" and "The Northerner" stop at National Park and our reception can arrange for you to be collected at the station. The station is at National Park township about 15 kms from the Skotel. All trains offer excellent on-board service, including food and beverage, airline style seating and a commentary during the journey.

Bus

There are also bus connections that will bring you the Whakapapa Village. InterCity buses travel from Auckland to Wellington and stop at Turangi. From there Alpine Scenic Transport has a bus link to the Whakapapa Village.

Plane

Mountainair operates charter flights from Auckland and other cities to their airport about 7km from the Skotel.
