This is an outstanding facility managed by the Department of Conservation which includes:
Just above the Visitor Centre on the right hand side of the road is the Camp Store. It supplies a small range of foodstuffs, drinks, ice cream and newspapers.
Opened in 1929 and renowned for its classical styling and grandeur, the Chateau is one of New Zealand's most famous buildings. The Ruapehu Room at the Chateau provides exclusive space with no expense spared, silver service, fine dining a la carte suitable for that very special occasion.
For morning and afternoon teas and a light lunch we can recommend Ferguson’s Coffee Shop, it is just below the Visitor Centre on the opposite side of the road.
The Chateau's 9 hole golf course is available for the use of our guests. Bookings should be made at the Chateau reception and clubs are available for hire.
Two tennis courts are available for hire from the Chateau reception. Tennis racquets are available for hire.
Just 6 kilometres up Bruce Road from the Skotel is the "Top of the Bruce" - a complex that includes two licensed cafeterias, and a well-equipped casual and outdoors clothing shop.
The mountain chairlifts operate in winter and during the summer except when they are closed for maintenance. They offer access to New Zealand's largest ski field in the winter and to a range of interesting walks in the summer. At the top of the second chairlift is another licensed cafeteria surrounded by decks on which you can relax and enjoy the view. Sunscreen and warm clothing are necessary at any time of the year.
